A Study on the Perception Pattern of Users and Social Workers for enhancement of function of the Senior Centers - by Using Q methodology

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify the various perceptions of users and social workersto suggest implications for improving functions of the Senior Centers. Q methodology wasapplied to achieve this goal. The researcher selected 36 Q samples from news articles and datathrough in-depth interviews and the reliability was .788. 57 people, who were users of acenter(25 people) and social workers(32 people), participated in Q-sorting and the collected datawas analysed by the QUANL program. The perception patterns were divided into four types forusers of the Senior Center£º¡®currently satisfying type(type 1)¡¯, ¡®social relations type(type 2)¡¯,¡®productive activities type(type 3)¡¯ and ¡®lifelong learning type(type 4)¡¯. Three types of socialworkers were ¡®leisure support type(type 1)¡¯, ¡®vulnerable social groups support type(type 2)¡¯ and¡®mixed role of Senior Centers(type 3)¡¯. Objective accuracy of perceptions on the Senior Centersbetween users and social workers was very low. According to these results, the researchersuggested activating case management and consulting, providing leisure programs on demand andextension of specialized services significantly to reinforce Senior Centers`` functions for the oldcitizens.
